Should You Bring a Mosquito Net for Your Tanzania Safari?

Do You Need a Mosquito Net While on Safari in Tanzania?

In most cases, you do not need to bring your own mosquito net when traveling on a safari in Tanzania. Most lodges, tented camps, and safari accommodations provide mosquito nets over the beds, especially in areas where they are needed.

Many accommodations also have screened windows, regular mosquito control measures, and may provide insect repellent or mosquito spray in the rooms. During daytime game drives, you’ll spend most of your time inside a safari vehicle, where mosquitoes are generally not a significant concern.

For better protection, it’s recommended to pack:

  • A quality insect repellent containing DEET or picaridin.
  • Lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and long trousers to wear during the evenings.
  • Any recommended antimalarial medication, if advised by your healthcare provider before your trip.
  • A light jacket or fleece, as early mornings and evenings on safari can be surprisingly cool.

With these essentials, you’ll be well prepared to enjoy your Tanzania safari comfortably and safely without needing to carry your own mosquito net.
