Ruaha National Park

Tanzania's largest national park — a vast, remote wilderness teeming with lions, elephants, and wild dogs.

About Ruaha

Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's largest national park and one of Africa's best-kept safari secrets. Covering over 20,226 km² in the heart of Tanzania, it protects one of the largest lion populations on the continent alongside massive elephant herds, African wild dogs, cheetahs, and over 570 species of birds.

Unlike the busy northern circuit, Ruaha offers a genuinely remote and exclusive wilderness experience. Its rugged landscape of rocky outcrops, ancient baobabs, and the life-giving Great Ruaha River create a dramatic setting where predator-prey encounters are frequent and the sense of true wilderness is unmatched anywhere in East Africa.

How do I get to Ruaha National Park?
